Dear Seagate
Is the olive oil bottle of your new product “100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil” darkened to protect the oil? It looks like clear glass in the picture.
Thank you,
Megan
Dear Megan,
Yes, the bottle is clear glass. In fact it is the clearest glass that we could order. (We have since changed to an upgraded bottle.)
The green tinting that you are referring to in some of the olive oil bottles in the market is not sufficient to stop the sunlight from getting through. It has no effect on protecting the oil. However it does help create the illusion of showing a better green color for those olive oils that may be blended with vegetable oil or are not really “extra virgin”. This is purely a marketing gimmick.
Real 100% pure Extra Virgin Olive Oil is itself a very strong antioxidant and can protect itself for a couple of years against breakdown due to sunlight. It is of course advisable to store your olive oil in a cool, dry place, preferably inside you kitchen cabinet. The only better way to protect the olive oil from light is to package it inside a metal container. However that runs the risk of leaching of the coatings into the oil and affecting the oil’s purity and taste.
Sincerely,
Seagate

Interesting. I’ve always heard extra virgin olive oil is the best kind of oil to purchase but I didn’t know the oil can break down over time due to light. Good to know!
how long does olive oil take to break down? i cook with it all the time and go through a decent sized bottle in 2 months or so. i tend to leave it on my counter as well in a clear bottle.
Ah, this is a new Seagate product. I’d love to try it. I use olive oil frequently too Sarah! I wonder if the olive oil already been sent to retailers or is it only directly available through Seagate… I typically buy Seagate stuff from a local health food store.
Very true about olive oil being mixed with other oils when you purchase the cheapest products – what most people do! Wondering what this olive oil tastes like. Sounds like a great addition to the kitchen!
This is the best tasting olive oil I’ve ever used (and I’ve always bought high-quality primo products). It actually tastes like you’re biting into an olive! I haven’t used it for cooking yet, but drizzled on salad and steamed veggies-yummy!
