Sometimes we have to censor parts of customers’ product reviews because they make medical or disease claims about the products. While it has been very encouraging to hear about how many of these products have helped people solve many different problems as serious as cancer, diabetes, arthritis, or even the flu, we are not allowed to publish these comments on our website or in any of our literature associated with this company.
The FDA has very strict regulations controlling what we can and cannot say about foods, health food supplements, and homeopathic medicines. Even if it is not actually Seagate making the statements, by FDA regulations, if a comment appears on our website that sells Seagate products, it is considered to be a medical claim made by Seagate in order to promote the sale of our products.
Seagate is a member of the AHPA, American Herbal Products Association, an industry trade group that represents mostly homeopathic medicine manufacturers and supplement manufacturers. They supply us with daily updates of FDA warning letters to companies and prosecutions for these sorts of violations.
Beginning December 1st, we have changed the format of our censorship of medical claims so that this notation appears – (( medical claims censored by Seagate)) – where we have had to make any deletion from a customer’s comments because of a potential FDA medical claim or disease claim violation.
Please understand that it is very difficult to navigate our way through government regulations and avoid being written up for violations. So far we have had a 100% clean record with our regulators.
