Seagate has been farming since 1997. Most of the time things go smoothly and the vegetables and trees produce without any problem. However, we also face many challenges: summer daytime temperatures regularly stay above 100F; we farm in a very dry climate; there are occasional very high winds exceeding 80 mph during the Santa Ana season; drought; and the usual pests (bugs) and animals attacking the crops. Since we do not use any chemicals on this land, it can at times be very challenging.
At the moment, we have a plague of rabbits destroying at the tomato and broccoli crops planted in May. Most of the new plants as you can see below are gone.

When this occurs, we build taller and deeper fences and try planting all over again. There is not much more than you can do.
Well actually there is something. Just whip out the dive gear and camera and take off underwater with the friendly fish … or in the photo below a lobster. This fellow emerged from his space under a boulder to investigate me going past his home. Notice the brilliant colors. These are untouched by editing. It is always amazing how Nature places some of the most vibrant colors on this planet below the surface of the sea.
