There once was a time in America when people decided to run for office in order to help improve the country. However, politics has become a joke. Most politicians make their decisions based upon what will keep them in office.
Power has many of side-benefits:
-It can enrich these politicians or their families when foreign entities shower them with money, positions or presents in order to gain influence. Call this one bribes.
-It allows the politician to vote in favor of contracts or regulations that benefit specific firms or industries who might have supported their campaigns or who will later reward them with board positions, vacations, and very high payments for speaking engagements.
-It allows politicians to eventually trade in their fame for multi-million dollar payments for giving half hour speeches or signing book deals. (Can you name an east coast governor who recently released a book during the latest spike in Covid, touting his success at controlling infections while ordering infected patients into nursing homes resulting in the deaths of many thousands of elderly ?)
What happens when the people we elected act only in their own best interests …. which translates to taking advantage of their positions in order to stay in power or do so for their own monetary gain? You end up with a country that is a cross between Venezuela and Russia. This is normally a blog devoted to helping you to stay healthy naturally. However, there are times when our country’s politics become so biased and self-serving that it is causing major indigestion. When the “Press” disregards the concept honest journalism, they invite abuse. When they take sides during an election and editorialize the news, that is not journalism. That is censorship. They should call it what it really is — campaigning for one candidate at the expense of another.
Whether it is having a son taking money from foreign governments keen on influencing daddy, or mediocre politicians who have never actually worked a day in the real world getting jobs from companies that they had been regulating, or writing book deals or making speaking engagements that pay in the multi-millions of $, or just holding back the next round of Covid aid from people who really need the $$ …. just to cause a president to lose his election …. well, we get it.
When you have political parties withholding voting on the release of Covid relief funds before an election, just to make the party in power look bad and lose votes, that is a shame at the expense of almost 15 million families who under stress trying to feed themselves or pay rent.
When a politician lines his pockets with gifts, that’s a crime.
When a politician calls Americans “the despicables” because they might support another candidate, that is insulting.
When politicians who have never worked outside of Washington or held an honest job, have had 47 years in office and are calling themselves the candidate of change, then this is all getting pretty silly.
Hopefully we will eventually get some good people in office that don’t put themselves and their party above the rest of us.
