Summer is a fun time of the year to get outside and enjoy days at the beach, backyard barbecues with friends, and vacations with family. With so much to see and do, there’s no time to be sick in the summer. But that doesn’t mean that the spread of germs necessarily slows down just because the temperature heats up.
To stay healthy all summer long, here are some tips for boosting your immune system this season.

Wash Your Hands Often
There’s no bad time of the year or time of the day to wash your hands. The more frequently you wash your hands (within reason, of course) with warm and soapy water, the less likely you are to become sick because of germs around you. Wash your hands more often when you are out in public and touching shared surfaces. Keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with you at all times for those situations when soap and water aren’t immediately available.
Embrace In-Season Fruits and Vegetables
Summer is an ideal time to lighten up your diet and ditch heavy carbs in favor of fresh fruits and veggies. Some vegetables that are in-season for summer include carrots, zucchini, bell peppers, cucumbers, and beets. Various kinds of berries, including raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries, are in season during summer. Meanwhile, tomatoes, garlic, and apricots are other great summertime foods.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Even when there are so many fun things going on during the season, it’s still important to get plenty of rest each night. This typically means seven to nine hours of sleep nightly for the average adult. Try to stick to a regular bedtime schedule and waking time, even if that means pushing those times back a bit during the summer to make the most out of exciting activities and extended hours of daylight.

Try Olive Leaf Extract
If you try just one new supplement to benefit your health this summer, make it olive leaf extract. This supplement helps you stay naturally healthy when taken daily. You can also increase the dosage a bit if you feel like you’re becoming ill and need extra support. Our new Olive Leaf Plus capsules combine six immune support ingredients in each dose, and it’s available for sale just in time for summer.
Drink Lots of Water
Hydration is important all throughout the year, but especially on hot and humid summer days. Your body needs a steady source of water to flush out toxins that accumulate from environmental exposure and unhealthy foods and drinks that you occasionally consume. Keep a water bottle within reach at all times, including while you are at home and out on-the-go.
Get Your Vitamin D Safely
It’s typically easier to get your daily dose of vitamin D in the summer because of increased sunshine and more fun activities planned outside. But the risks of sun exposure don’t outweigh the benefits of getting vitamin D from the environment. Therefore, make sure to wear sunscreen of at least 30 SPF whenever you go outdoors in the summer. This way, you can safely get a vitamin D boost to support your immune system’s functioning without worrying about sunburns or skin damage.
