Seagate has been growing artichokes on our farm for over 15 years. Originally, this project was undertaken because we were looking for additional nutritious vegetables to grow. The climate in our region is just right for this particular vegetable, which happens to be very hardy and rarely subject to insect or animal attack. Also, once you have a farm set up growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, it is not difficult to add one more item. Seagate began growing vegetables in 1997 when we began with our first crop of carrots.
During the last two years, the volume of artichokes that we have been selling has grown to become our 5th most popular product. This is a pretty difficult accomplishment given that it is up against our olive leaf extract, olive leaf throat spray and olive leaf nasal sprays. As you can see in the photo above, this is still a juvenile plant, fed water from our drip irrigation lines. The photo below was taken last season, when the artichoke “fruits” were already beginning to form on the plant.
We will begin harvesting these “fruits” during the mid-winter. These round artichoke balls will be trucked immediately to our factory for freeze-drying and grinding into a powder.
This is a food that not many of us eat because it is tedious to prepare. However, it’s extremely nutritious having low-carbs, high fiber, non-fat, no cholesterol, and is high in antioxidants.
Artichokes are taken by people because they can benefit weight loss, pregnancy, liver function, cardio function, diabetes, blood sugar, and sleep. Since we are the manufacturer and cannot make any specific claims, we can point you to the search engine – click on PubMed run by the National Institute of Health. Just type in “artichokes” in their search box and view the medical research that has been published about this product and see why it has become a super food.
For those of you that prefer the convenience of a ready-to-eat freeze-dried version of this product, add Seagate’s artichoke capsules to your daily regimen.
